From Marines to Green Hydrogen: Steve Baker is Leading in Renewable Energy
Plug is revolutionizing the power and energy industry, and with Steve Baker, Plug is in good hands. Steve has embraced his role as the site manager for what would be North America’s very first operational green hydrogen plant located in Georgia. Daily operations for Steve include being responsible for running the plant home to the first 5MW electrolyzer, supporting and commissioning efforts for the plant’s liquefier, but most importantly managing a team who is changing the landscape of renewable energy.
After serving in the Marines for ten years, he is no stranger to taking charge. One of his favorite parts of the job is “growing and grooming the next group of future leaders in the hydrogen economy.” His dedication to his team has been critical to the success of Plug, and he could not be any prouder of his work. “Being at the tip of the spear for the very first green hydrogen plant is something I am very proud of.”
Plug’s mission to set the standard for renewable energy is “work worth doing,” according to Steve. He is always looking to better the people around him along with his environment. “I have always been passionate about doing something that betters those around me and the areas around and providing support to those in need.”
His impact extends outside of the Georgia plant and into the community. Once Steve is done leading his team at Plug’s green hydrogen plant, he takes off the safety glasses and puts on a helmet. As an effort to take part in community outreach, he joined a semi-professional football team. As someone who enjoys athletics, he has seen major success, winning rookie of the year while playing both sides of the ball at offensive line and middle linebacker.
Finally, Steve’s most important team is his family. Outside of Plug, most of his time is spent with his wife and two children.
Steve’s unwavering leadership skills and dedication to driving positive change has been critical to the success of Plug Power and the community around him. Take a sneak peek into what Steve has helped build by clicking the link below.
