PowerSpot: Nate Venner-VanSleet

This is PowerSpot, Plug Power’s monthly blog series where we highlight the Plug Power employees who inspire us and, we hope, will inspire you, too. Today, we’re hearing from Nate Venner-VanSleet, Plug Power’s Production Supervisor for Fuel Cell Stacks and Hydrogen Skids.

Please explain what you do for a living in 20 words or fewer.

I help manage workflow in two different departments. One area is building the fuel cells needed for our customers’ forklifts, the second area is building the hydrogen infrastructure needed for sites to be able to use Plug Power fuel cells.

What is one of the most interesting things about your role at Plug Power?

I love that every day is something new, be it a new employee, product, or project. I have always found that managing teams through obstacles and hurdles to achieve a goal is both exciting and fun.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

That’s a tough one. I’d go for being invisible. There’s so much more you can learn if no one can see you.

What most excites you about hydrogen and fuel cells?

That it is ever changing. I love the fact that it’s becoming more and more accepted across the globe as a cleaner fuel. I also enjoy watching the evolution of the current fuel cell going from graphite to metal…. that is one achievement after another.

Do you have a life philosophy? What is it?

Everyone deserves a second chance. We are all human and full of emotions.

If you could choose to do any job for a day, what would it be?

That’s a tough one to answer. My honest answer is that I’d love to be my own boss in a material handling business.

Thank you, Nate, for allowing us to get to know you and for being such an integral part of Plug Power!
