PowerSpot: Mike Wilcher
This is PowerSpot, Plug Power’s monthly blog series where we highlight the Plug Power employees who inspire us and, we hope, will inspire you, too. Today, we’re meeting Hydrogen Service Manager, Mike Wilcher.
Mike, please explain what you do for a living in 20 words or fewer.
I am responsible for the operation and upkeep of Plug Power’s GenFuel hydrogen products.
What are three words that describe you?
- Energetic
- Confident
- Driven
What about hydrogen and fuel cells inspires you most?
To be honest, it’s quite simple. I wake up each morning and do something that very few people get a chance to do. The fuel cell and hydrogen industries are relatively small. I rarely run into someone who knows what a fuel cell is or that hydrogen exists as a liquid. Plug Power has given me the opportunity to not only work with this new technology, they’ve encouraged me be part of the change in our world.
What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?
In this day and age, I’d take a satellite phone to call to be rescued. But to play along, I’d have to bring the essentials: a fire starter, a knife, and my dog.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten?
A few years ago, I had chicken feet; and I would actually have them again, if given the opportunity.
If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to? Why?
I’d travel back to 1804 and join Lewis and Clark on their expedition west. I enjoy nature, and experiencing years of travel during this time would have been a peaceful and fulfilling journey.
We’re happy to have Mike as part of our team working to make hydrogen and fuel cells ubiquitous power solutions for our world.
