Plug Receives Top Project of the Year Award from Environment + Energy Leader

Plug is thrilled to announce that our new green hydrogen production facility and electric substation in the Science Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Park, known as STAMP, in Genesee County, New York, has been honored with the prestigious Top Project of the Year Award in the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program. This accolade recognizes Plug as an exemplary leader making great strides in energy / environmental management.

The STAMP site is the largest green hydrogen production facility in North America, and will produce 45 metric tons of green liquid hydrogen daily once fully operational.

This $290 million investment in green hydrogen production leads the way to decarbonizing freight-transportation and logistics and supports New York’s path to achieving carbon-neutrality by 2050.

The plant will use 120 MW of Plug’s state-of-the-art PEM electrolyzers to make green hydrogen using clean NY hydropower. This facility is expected to bring 60+ jobs to the county. Only emitting oxygen, this project is a step forward to decarbonizing the economy and furthering the energy transition.

The outstanding qualities and remarkable achievements of the STAMP project captivated the attention of the program’s distinguished panel of judges. One judge remarked, “There is going to be even more need for cleaner and sustainable local hydrogen supply – and Plug Power can play a major role in the decarbonization of the transportation sector.” Another judge added, “This project demonstrates innovation by seamlessly integrating various aspects of hydrogen production, storage, and delivery. It represents a robust initiative; and there is an opportunity to further engage stakeholders in a fresh and targeted manner.” These testimonials affirm the exceptional impact and excellence of the STAMP project in driving sustainability and energy efficiency.

The Environment + Energy Leader Awards program aims to commend excellence in products and projects that deliver significant energy and environmental benefits. Sarah Roberts, Co-President of E+E Leader, emphasized the rigorous selection process, stating, “This year’s entrants had to surpass an exceptionally high bar to qualify for an award, thanks to a seasoned and discerning judging panel as well as stringent judging criteria.”

This award comes on the heels of Plug’s 2022 E&E award: Plug is building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem.
