H2@Work Employee Spotlight: Damon Curtis

Damon serves as Manager of Data Systems within Plug’s Service Group. He leads the enterprise data infrastructure that supports both GenFuel and GenDrive operations. His work includes overseeing fueling network control systems, condition-based monitoring platforms, analytics environments, and the GenDrive fuel cell data ecosystem. Damon also manages the service data portal that is evolving into the next generation Field Service Management platform, helping improve uptime, safety, and operational efficiency across the hydrogen network.

From Technical Integration to Hydrogen Infrastructure

Damon came to Plug with a background in technical integrations and problem solving. After owning and operating his own business, he experienced the shift from analog to digital control systems firsthand. Designing and installing those systems gave him a deep understanding of both field operations and system architecture. That experience naturally led him to an environment where technology, infrastructure, and operational performance intersect.

Growing Alongside the Hydrogen Industry

Damon has spent more than a decade at Plug. When he first joined, hydrogen fueling infrastructure was still new and evolving. The early days of the first GenFuel systems stand out as one of the most extraordinary periods of his career. He remembers stepping into the hydrogen field for the first time and learning how every component had to align, from storage and compression to dispensing, fuel cells, service operations, and data systems. Watching that ecosystem take shape gave him a front row seat to the growth of an entirely new energy platform.

Facing Complex Challenges with Determination

Damon believes building an energy solution that can impact the world is naturally complex. The hydrogen industry is shaped by shifting markets, evolving regulations, and rapid technological change. Through those challenges he has learned that progress often comes from solving the problem directly in front of you and trusting that steady improvement matters. He credits Plug’s entrepreneurial culture for encouraging people to take ownership, push through adversity, and support each other along the way.

Excited by the Journey of Learning

While the long-term potential of hydrogen and fuel cells is exciting, Damon says the most rewarding part is the challenge of learning and problem solving. When he first joined Plug, he had no experience with fuel cells or liquid hydrogen systems. Over time, through hands on experience and constant learning, he built deep knowledge in technology that could shape the future of global energy.

A Philosophy of Building What Matters

Damon approaches life with a simple philosophy. Build things that matter. Whether it is systems, teams, or relationships, he believes in creating lasting value and leaving every environment stronger than he found it.

Memories from the Journey

Damon loves family vacations and the stories that come from them. One trip stands out, traveling from Kentucky to Myrtle Beach in a rented motor home. As the engine sputtered and backfired along the highway, Damon and his cousins laughed uncontrollably from the back of the camper. He may not remember much about the beach itself, but he still remembers the ride. For Damon, it is a reminder that sometimes the best memories come from the unexpected moments along the journey.
